Decoding Informal Game Making

This project examined the barriers and benefits to participation in local independent game jams and game making events. It sought to remove local institutional, situational and personal barriers by creating events and resources that put equity, diversity and inclusion in game making at the forefront.

This project brought together academics, community organisers and others to form a local ‘Network in Play’ in Ireland. The project grew out of the community organising experiences of the team and a concern that despite the growth in formal games education programmes, and ever increasing numbers of local game companies, the diversity of those attending community and industry events remained limited.
